Shibuya Station’s A8 Exit is located near the JR Shibuya Station “Hachiko Exit”, right in Hachiko Mae Plaza, where the Hachiko statue stands.
Its primary use is for exiting from the underground to Hachiko Mae Plaza, or conversely, for going underground from JR lines and other routes.

How to Get to A8 Exit from Hachiko Mae
First, let’s look at how to get to the A8 Exit from Hachiko Mae.
- The A8 Exit is an underground entrance located between the Hachiko Statue and the JR Shibuya Station Hachiko Exit.
Since the A8 Exit is located right in Hachiko Mae Plaza, if you’re already at Hachiko Mae, you’ve pretty much arrived!
How to Get to A8 Exit from JR Shibuya Station
From JR lines such as the Yamanote Line, Shonan-Shinjuku Line, and Saikyo Line, first aim for the “Hachiko Exit ticket gates”.
- From the JR line platform, head towards the “Hachiko Exit ticket gates”. (These are located below the platform level.)
- Once you pass through the Hachiko Exit ticket gates, you’ll see the “Hachiko Exit” immediately nearby. Go outside from there.
- After exiting from the Hachiko Exit, you’ll see an underground entrance directly in front of you. That is the A8 Exit.
There are two Hachiko Exit ticket gates, but you can exit directly from either. Once you pass through the gates, go outside, and you’ll find the A8 Exit in front of you.
How to Get to A8 Exit from Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line Shibuya Station
The Hanzomon Line and Den-en-toshi Line are directly connected, so they arrive at the same platform.
- From the Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line platform, first go to the platform level where the “Hachiko Ticket Gates” are located.
- Once you reach the platform level, you’ll find two “Hachiko Ticket Gates.” Exit from the gate that is in the direction of the Ginza Line.
- After passing through the ticket gate, turn right and proceed.
- Walk a short distance, and you’ll see an escalator with a large yellow sign indicating “A8”. Take this escalator up.
- After getting off the escalator, turn right immediately.
- Walk a little further, and you’ll see an escalator on your left.
- Take this escalator up, and it will lead you directly to the ground level. That is the A8 Exit.
Please note that there are two Hachiko Ticket Gates. If you accidentally exit from the other gate, you’ll find signs for the A8 Exit immediately to your left, so follow those directions.
How to Get to A8 Exit from Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line Shibuya Station
Shibuya Station for the Toyoko Line and Fukutoshin Line is underground. First, aim for the Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line platform.
- When you arrive at Shibuya Station on the Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line, move up one floor from the platform.
- After getting off the escalator, follow the sign for “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line”.
- You’ll then find an escalator marked “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line.” Take this to the Den-en-toshi Line platform.
- Continue straight along the platform, and take the escalator at the opposite end of the platform to go up.
- After getting off the escalator, you’ll be on the platform level. There are two “Hachiko Ticket Gates.” Exit from the gate in the direction of the Ginza Line. (This will be diagonally right behind you after getting off the escalator.)
- After passing through the ticket gate, turn right and proceed.
- Walk a short distance, and you’ll see an escalator with a large yellow sign indicating “A8”. Take this escalator up.
- After getting off the escalator, turn right immediately.
- Walk a little further, and you’ll see an escalator on your left.
- Take this escalator up, and it will lead you directly to the ground level. That is the A8 Exit.
Getting to the Hachiko ticket gates from the Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line can be a bit tricky as it’s a longer distance, but once you’re out of those gates, the rest is easy.
How to Get to Hachiko from Inokashira Line Shibuya Station
From the Inokashira Line, aim for Hachiko Mae Plaza.
- Exit from the Inokashira Line’s “Central Exit ticket gate”.
- Immediately after exiting, there’s an escalator diagonally to your left. Take this down.
- After getting off the escalator, you’ll see a crosswalk directly in front of you. Cross it.
- After crossing the road, turn left, and you’ll immediately be in Hachiko Mae Plaza.
- Once you’re in Hachiko Mae Plaza, turn right and walk towards JR Shibuya Station.
- Before you reach JR Shibuya Station, there’s an underground entrance on your left. That is the A8 Exit.
From the Inokashira Line, as long as you take the correct first escalator after exiting the ticket gate, you’ll be fine.
How to Get to Hachiko from Ginza Line Shibuya Station
The Ginza Line is a bit further. Make sure you exit from the correct ticket gate.
- First, exit from the “Scramble Square-side ticket gate” at the end of the platform. (Be careful, as there’s another ticket gate in the opposite direction.)
- After passing through the ticket gate, there will be ticket machines to your left, but there’s a passageway to their right. Go there.
- Immediately turn left and proceed straight along the path.
- After walking for about 30 seconds, you’ll find an escalator. Take this down.
- After getting off the escalator, you’ll still be on the 2nd floor. There’s another escalator immediately to your right that goes down further. Take this one.
- After getting off this escalator, you’ll be on the ground level. Immediately turn right.
- Walk a short distance, and you’ll see “Miyamasuzaka-shita Intersection” in front of you. To your left, just before the intersection, is the JR “Miyamasuzaka Exit”. Enter from there.
- Continue straight, and you’ll reach the “Hachiko Exit.” Exit from there again, and you’ll be in Hachiko Mae Plaza.
- Once you’re in Hachiko Mae Plaza, there’s an underground entrance diagonally to your front left. That is the A8 Exit.
