Which Exit for Dogenzaka from Shibuya Station? Directions & Recommended Meeting Spots

道玄坂 Shibuya Station

When you think of Shibuya, Dogenzaka probably comes to mind. It’s the street that leads from the Scramble Crossing in front of Hachiko towards Shibuya 109 (it’s also a town name). And past 109, the road starts to slope uphill.

So, Shibutama is here to show you which exit to use for Dogenzaka from Shibuya Station, how to get there, and recommend some great meeting spots!

Dogenzaka Exits at Shibuya Station: “Hachiko Exit” and “Exit 0”

When talking about the Dogenzaka area from JR Shibuya Station, it’s essentially the Hachiko area. Dogenzaka starts around the Scramble Crossing in front of Hachiko Plaza, so you’ll aim for Hachiko, meaning the exit will be the “Hachiko Exit.” From JR lines, just exit the Hachiko Gate, and you’ll be right there.

For subway lines (Hanzomon Line, Den-en-toshi Line, Toyoko Line, Fukutoshin Line), aim for “Exit 0.” This Exit 0 connects directly to the area just beyond Shibuya 109. While Dogenzaka itself starts around Hachiko, if you’re specifically asking for a Dogenzaka-area exit, this “Exit 0” is the one.

And for the Inokashira Line, the Dogenzaka area is accessed by exiting the Chuo-guchi (Central Exit) gate and using the “Chuo-guchi (Central Exit).”

The Ginza Line is on the opposite side of Shibuya Station, making Dogenzaka a bit tricky to access directly. However, the shortest route involves exiting the “Shibuya Scramble Square Exit,” going to ground level, and passing through the JR “Hachiko Exit” area.

Now, let’s look at how to get there from each train line!

  8. Continue straight through the building, and you’ll find the opposite exit, the “Hachiko Exit.” Go outside from there.
  9. Once outside the Hachiko Exit, head straight forward, and you’ll reach the “Scramble Crossing.”
  10. There’s a crosswalk diagonally to your front right leading to Starbucks. Take the crosswalk one to the left of that one.

Recommended Meeting Spots in the Dogenzaka Area of Shibuya Station

Let’s consider some meeting spots in the Dogenzaka area of Shibuya Station.

Dogenzaka Meeting Spot ① In Front of Hachiko Statue

Since Dogenzaka starts from Hachiko Square, meeting in front of the Hachiko statue, a classic meeting spot, is perfectly fine. However, the crowd is definitely a drawback. Still, it’s the top candidate. Everyone knows it, which is its greatest strength.

Dogenzaka Meeting Spot ② In Front of Shibuya 109

When we talk about Dogenzaka, its starting point is truly Shibuya 109. So, meeting in front of 109 is also a good option. However, the area in front of 109 can feel a bit awkward for meeting. While it’s fine for younger women, older gentlemen might find it uncomfortable to wait there. Though, perhaps older gentlemen wouldn’t typically meet on Dogenzaka anyway.

Dogenzaka Meeting Spot ③ Our Recommendation: UNIQLO Dogenzaka Store

Our recommended meeting spot is the “UNIQLO Dogenzaka Store,” located just behind Shibuya 109.

Exit 0, which we introduced as the exit for various subway lines, is directly connected to this UNIQLO Dogenzaka store. So, it’s incredibly easy to get to from the subway, you can browse UNIQLO if you have time, and you’ll be entirely indoors, making it perfect for rainy weather.

For other lines, it’s a place you’ll pass through anyway if you’re going to Dogenzaka, so there should be no problem. Furthermore, this UNIQLO Dogenzaka store isn’t very large, with only three floors from B1F to 2F. It shouldn’t be too crowded, making it a comfortable place to meet.

Summary: Dogenzaka Exits & Meeting Spots at Shibuya Station

For Dogenzaka exits, it’s the Hachiko Exit for JR and Exit 0 for subway lines. The directions aren’t too difficult.

As for meeting spots in the Dogenzaka area, there are three options: ① In front of Hachiko, ② In front of Shibuya 109, and ③ UNIQLO Dogenzaka Store. All are easy to find, and it’s up to your preference, but our recommendation is ③ UNIQLO Dogenzaka Store.

That’s all from Shibutama!
