Digital Hachiko in Shibuya: New Meeting Spot, Where to Find It, What to Do

When you think of a symbol of Shibuya Station, Hachiko’s statue, the loyal dog, probably comes to mind. It’s a popular and often bustling meeting spot, but did you know there’s another Hachiko in Shibuya, packed with the latest technology? That’s the “Digital Hachiko” located inside Shibuya Fukuras.

【Latest Information】 Digital Hachiko moved from the 2nd floor to the 8th floor of Shibuya Fukuras on April 2, 2025, or later. Please be aware that its location has changed!

This time, Shibutama will introduce you to the latest location and unique ways to enjoy this new meeting spot, “Digital Hachiko.”

What is Digital Hachiko?

Digital Hachiko is installed on the 8th floor of “Shibuya Fukuras,” a multi-purpose complex located in front of Shibuya Station’s West Exit.

At first glance, it might look like a simple display, but by rapidly rotating LED-equipped fans, a three-dimensional image of Hachiko appears as if it were truly there. With hologram-like technology, the moving image of Hachiko looks just like it’s alive.

Unlike the original Hachiko statue, it’s installed indoors, so you can comfortably meet up or visit on rainy or hot days, which is a key feature.

How to Enjoy Digital Hachiko

Digital Hachiko isn’t just something to look at. It also has interactive elements to entertain visitors.

  • Enjoy Interactive Interaction! Near Digital Hachiko, there’s a control tablet. Using this tablet, you can make the Hachiko on screen perform familiar tricks like “shake a paw” or “lie down,” and show off other adorable gestures. The charm is that it feels like you’re interacting with a real Hachiko.
  • Watch Hachiko’s World Journey! Among the contents you can enjoy with the tablet operation, there are videos of Hachiko visiting famous landmarks around the world. Seeing Hachiko, the symbol of Shibuya, displayed alongside the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty is truly unique and heartwarming.
  • Experience the Emotion of “The Hachiko Story”! An emotional original story video about the loyal dog Hachiko, produced in cooperation with the Shibuya City Tourism Association and others, is also screened. By experiencing the story of Hachiko, which every Japanese person knows, through the latest digital technology, you can feel that bond even more deeply.
  • Smooth Meetups with Free Wi-Fi! Free Wi-Fi is provided by GMO Internet Group around Digital Hachiko. You can comfortably communicate or look up information while waiting, without worrying about your connection. Of course, uploading photos of Digital Hachiko to social media is also smooth!
