When we think of iconic buildings around Shibuya Station, Shibuya 109 definitely comes to mind. Its name is said to derive from “Tōkyū” (東急) – “Tō” (10) and “Kyū” (9) – and also represents its operating hours: 10 AM to 9 PM.

So, Shibutama is here to show you how to get to Shibuya 109 from each train line at Shibuya Station! You can reach it directly underground from the subway lines. For JR, Inokashira, and Ginza lines, we’ll also explain the underground routes.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station ① JR Lines

When coming from JR lines, use the Hachiko Exit.

  1. After exiting the JR Hachiko Gate, go outside through the nearby “Hachiko Exit.”
  2. Once you’re outside the Hachiko Exit, head straight forward, and you’ll reach the “Scramble Crossing.”
  3. There’s a crosswalk diagonally to your front right leading to Starbucks. Take the crosswalk one to the left of that one.
  4. After crossing the crosswalk, go straight along that street. (You’ll see Shibuya 109 directly in front of you.)
  5. Cross the crosswalk in front of Shibuya 109, and you’ve arrived! After crossing the Scramble Crossing, you’ll reach Shibuya 109 in just 1-2 minutes.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station: Underground Route from JR Lines

Next, we’ll explain the underground route to Shibuya 109 from JR lines.

  1. From JR lines, exit from the “Hachiko Gate”, turn left and go out through the “Hachiko Exit.”
  2. Then, you’ll see an underground entrance diagonally to your front left. Go down into the underground from there.
  3. Once underground, head to the left. You’ll see Tokyu Food Show; proceed to the right of it.
  4. Turn right at the end of the passage. When you come out into a wide open space, turn left and continue straight. (Aim for Exit A2.)
  5. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the entrance to Shibuya 109 diagonally to your front right. There are two Hachiko Exits, but from either one, there’s an immediate underground entrance nearby.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station ② Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line

From the Hanzomon Line and Den-en-toshi Line, you can reach Shibuya 109 directly underground. Exit the Dogenzaka Gate and head towards Exit A2.

  1. First, exit from the “Dogenzaka Gate.”
  2. After exiting the gate, you’ll see an escalator and stairs directly in front of you. Go up one floor to B1F.
  3. Once you reach B1F, you’ll see a yellow sign diagonally to your front right indicating “Exit A2.” Head towards it.
  4. Go up the stairs, and you’ll immediately find the underground entrance to Shibuya 109. Since it’s a direct underground connection from the Hanzomon Line/Den-en-toshi Line, you’ll reach Shibuya 109 from the platform in just a few minutes.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station ③ Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line

For the Toyoko Line and Fukutoshin Line, you’ll first need to transfer to the Hanzomon Line/Den-en-toshi Line platform, and then aim for the “Dogenzaka Gate.”

  1. From the Toyoko Line/Fukutoshin Line platform, go up one floor, and then transfer to the Hanzomon Line/Den-en-toshi Line platform.
  2. Go straight along the Hanzomon Line/Den-en-toshi Line platform and go up the stairs leading to the “Dogenzaka Gate.”
  3. After exiting the Dogenzaka Gate, you’ll see an escalator and stairs directly in front of you. Go up one floor to B1F.
  4. Once you reach B1F, you’ll see a yellow sign diagonally to your front right indicating “Exit A2.” Head towards it.
  5. Go up the stairs, and you’ll immediately find the underground entrance to Shibuya 109. It’s a bit of a distance from the Toyoko Line/Fukutoshin Line platforms to Shibuya 109, so allow about 7-8 minutes.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station ④ Inokashira Line

For the Inokashira Line, exit from the gate marked with a yellow sign that says “Exit (Chuo-guchi).”

  1. First, exit from the “Chuo-guchi” (Central Exit) gate.
  2. After exiting the gate, there’s an escalator diagonally to your front left. Take it down to ground level.
  3. After getting off the escalator, turn left immediately. You’ll see a pachinko parlor called “Espas” diagonally to your front left. Take the street to its left.
  4. At the next T-junction, turn right. (You’ll see Shibuya 109 directly in front of you.)
  5. Continue straight, and you’ll reach the street where Shibuya 109 is located. (Once on the street, there’s a crosswalk to your right.) After exiting the Inokashira Line gate, Shibuya 109 is just a few minutes’ walk away.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station: Underground Route from Inokashira Line

Next, we’ll explain how to get to Shibuya 109 via the underground route from the Inokashira Line. This route is longer than the surface route; it involves going underground into Mark City, passing through the underground area of Hachiko Square, and then turning towards 109, so it’s a roundabout way.

  1. Exit from the “Chuo-guchi (Central Exit) gate” of the Inokashira Line.
  2. Take the escalator diagonally to your front left down.
  3. Once on the ground level, immediately go to your right and behind you. You’ll find an escalator leading further underground. Take it down.
  4. Once underground, go to your left and behind you to enter Tokyu Food Show. Proceed straight.
  5. After walking for a while, you’ll come to a connecting passage. After passing through it, you’ll see Andersen Bakery. Turn left in front of it.
  6. Walk a short distance, and you’ll exit Tokyu Food Show. Turn left there.
  7. Turn right at the end of the passage. When you come out into a wide open space, turn left and continue straight. (Aim for Exit A2.)
  8. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the entrance to Shibuya 109 diagonally to your front right. Incidentally, the surface route from the Inokashira Line is closer, so it’s recommended unless there’s a specific reason to use the underground route. The surface route takes just a few minutes, while the underground route takes 5-6 minutes.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station ⑤ Ginza Line

For the Ginza Line, exit from the “Shibuya Scramble Square Exit.”

  1. From the Ginza Line platform, first head towards the “Shibuya Scramble Square Exit.” (Be careful, as there’s also a gate on the opposite side of the platform.)
  2. After exiting the gate, there are ticket machines to your left, but go through the passage immediately to their right.
  3. Once in the passage, immediately turn left and proceed straight along the path.
  4. After walking for about 30 seconds, you’ll see an escalator. Take it down.
  5. After getting off the escalator, you’re still on the 2nd floor. There’s another escalator immediately to your right going down. Take that further down.
  6. Once you’re on the ground level, immediately turn right.
  7. Walk a short distance. You’ll see the “Miyamasu-zaka Shita Crossing” straight ahead. Just before it, on your front left, is the JR “Miyamasu-zaka Exit.” Enter the building there.
  8. Continue straight through the building, and you’ll reach the opposite exit, the “Hachiko Exit.” Go outside from there.
  9. Once outside the Hachiko Exit, head straight forward, and you’ll reach the “Scramble Crossing.”
  10. There’s a crosswalk diagonally to your front right leading to Starbucks. Take the crosswalk one to the left of that one.
  11. After crossing the crosswalk, go straight along that street. (You’ll see Shibuya 109 directly in front of you.)
  12. Cross the crosswalk in front of Shibuya 109, and you’ve arrived! The Ginza Line is on the opposite side of Shibuya 109, making it the furthest. It takes about 7-8 minutes from the platform.

How to Get to Shibuya 109 from Shibuya Station: Underground Route from Ginza Line

Here’s how to get to Shibuya 109 underground from the Ginza Line. First, go to Shibuya Scramble Square, and then proceed through its basement to the underground passage.

  1. From the platform, proceed towards the “Shibuya Scramble Square Exit” and exit the gate. (Be careful, as there’s also a gate on the opposite side of the platform.)
  2. After exiting the gate, there are ticket machines to your left, but go through the passage immediately to their right.
  3. Immediately to your right is the entrance to “Shibuya Scramble Square.” (This is on the 3rd floor.)
  4. Enter Shibuya Scramble Square and take the escalator at the back down.
  5. Go down the escalator to B2F, and then exit to the outside from there.
  6. Once outside, you’ll be in an underground passage. Shibuya Hikarie is diagonally to your front right, and there’s a subway gate just before it. Turn left into the passage before that gate and proceed. (This is the passage with a moving walkway on the right.)
  7. After walking for a while, you’ll reach the subway gate “Miyamasu-zaka Chuo Gate.” Turn left in front of it.
  8. Then, just keep going straight for about 400 meters. Your destination is “Exit A2,” so follow its signs.
  9. After walking straight, you’ll find “Exit A2” on your front left at the end of the passage, which connects directly to Shibuya 109. The Ginza Line platform has gates on both sides, so be careful not to choose the wrong one when exiting.

Shibuya 109 Opening Hours are 10 AM to 9 PM

As mentioned at the beginning, Shibuya 109’s operating hours are from 10 AM to 9 PM, meaning from 10:00 to 21:00 (9:00 PM). Once you remember it this way, you won’t forget!
