Shibuya Scramble Square is a large complex famous for its observation deck, “Shibuya Sky,” on the top floor. Besides the observatory, it also houses many shops and restaurants.

So, this time, Shibutama will guide you on how to get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Shibuya Station! I’ll cover the closest ticket gates and exits, as well as directions using elevators.

Shibuya Scramble Square is Right Next to JR Line Ticket Gates

Shibuya Scramble Square is adjacent to JR Shibuya Station, making it incredibly close. Once you exit the JR ticket gates, the entrance is right there.

It’s also very close from other lines, but be aware that it’s about a 5-minute walk from the Inokashira Line. Let’s look at directions from each line.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Hachiko

First, here’s how to get there from Shibuya’s Hachiko Square:

  1. From Hachiko Square, enter the building via the Hachiko Exit, located immediately to the right of the police box.
  2. There’s a ticket gate immediately to your right, but pass through it and exit to the outside from the Miyamasuzaka Exit on the opposite side.
  3. Once outside, turn right immediately and proceed.
  4. The building at the end of the path is Shibuya Scramble Square.

You’ll arrive at Shibuya Scramble Square in just a few minutes’ walk from Hachiko Square.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from JR Shibuya Station

These are the directions from JR Shibuya Station, including the Yamanote Line, Shonan Shinjuku Line, and Saikyo Line. For Shibuya Scramble Square, use the Central Gate, which is on a higher floor than the platforms.

  1. Aim to ride in Car 8 of the Yamanote Line. If you’re not in Car 8, move towards Car 8 on the platform.
  2. Take the stairs or escalator in front of Car 8 to the upper floor.
  3. Once you reach the upper floor, turn right and proceed.
  4. At the end of the path, turn left and proceed.
  5. After walking for a while, you’ll see the “JR Central Gate” straight ahead. Exit from the Central Gate on the right side of it. Be careful not to exit from the Central Gate directly in front of you!
  6. Once you exit from the Central Gate on the right, you’ll see the entrance to Shibuya Scramble Square on the 3rd floor diagonally to your immediate right.

Shibuya Scramble Square is right in front of you once you exit the Central Gate, so just focus on exiting through the Central Gate!


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Shibuya Station (Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line)

From the Hanzomon Line and Den-en-toshi Line, aim for the Hikarie 1 Ticket Gate.

  1. From the Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line platform, take the escalator (towards Miyamasuzaka) at the end of the platform in the Oshiage direction to the upper floor.
  2. After getting off the escalator, proceed along the right-side passage without exiting the ticket gate.
  3. At the end of the passage, take the escalator down.
  4. You’ll then see a hemispherical object in front of you. Go around it from the left to the back, and you’ll find the “Hikarie 1 Ticket Gate.” Exit from there.
  5. After exiting the gate, proceed to your right.
  6. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the “entrance to Shibuya Scramble Square” on your left. This entrance is on the B2 (basement 2) floor.

You’ll reach Shibuya Scramble Square in about 4-5 minutes’ walk from the platform.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Shibuya Station (Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line)

From the Toyoko Line and Fukutoshin Line, use the Hikarie 1 Ticket Gate.

  1. Aim to ride in Car 7 of the Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line.
  2. Take the escalator in front of Car 7 up.
  3. Take another escalator up, diagonally behind you to the right. You’ll then see the Hikarie 1 Ticket Gate in front of you. Exit from there.
  4. After exiting the Hikarie 1 Ticket Gate, turn right.
  5. The entrance to Shibuya Scramble Square on the B2 (basement 2) floor will be diagonally to your front left.

From the Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line, it’s very close once you exit the ticket gate, so just make sure you exit from the correct gate.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Toyoko Line via Elevator

Next, I’ll explain how to get there using elevators for barrier-free access.

  1. First, from the Toyoko Line platform, take the elevator located at the very Yokohama-bound end of the platform to the ticket gate level (B3 floor).
  2. After exiting the elevator, you’ll find the Hikarie 2 Ticket Gate. Exit to the outside from there.
  3. After exiting the Hikarie 2 Ticket Gate, turn left.
  4. You’ll then see the entrance to Shibuya Scramble Square’s B2 (basement 2) floor diagonally to your front left. Without entering this entrance, proceed a little further in, and you’ll find an elevator. Alternatively, there’s also an elevator at the very back of Shibuya Scramble Square once you enter.

You can also reach near the Hikarie 1 Ticket Gate using the elevator at the center of the Toyoko Line platform, but the elevator at the Yokohama-bound end is often less crowded, which is why I introduced it here.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Shibuya Station (Inokashira Line)

From the Inokashira Line, exit from the Central Gate. This is the farthest route, taking about 5 minutes on foot.

  1. Exit from the “Central Gate” of the Inokashira Line.
  2. After exiting the gate, proceed straight. You’ll see Taro Okamoto’s large mural on your right. Pass through the passageway underneath it, to your right.
  3. Continue straight ahead. You’ll see a passageway leading straight ahead on your front right. Turn left there.
  4. Follow the path until you reach a dead end. Turn left there.
  5. You’ll immediately see stairs. Climb them. The stairs turn right partway up.
  6. After climbing the stairs, proceed straight.
  7. After walking for a while, you’ll see signs for the “JR Central Gate.” Proceed diagonally forward to the right there.
  8. You’ll then enter an open atrium area. Continue straight, and the entrance to Shibuya Scramble Square will be diagonally to your front right.

You’ll arrive on the 3rd floor of Shibuya Scramble Square.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Inokashira Line via Elevator

Next, I’ll explain the barrier-free route using elevators.

  1. Exit from the “Central Gate” of the Inokashira Line. The ticket gate is located beyond Car 5 (the front car).
  2. After exiting the gate, there’s an escalator diagonally to your front left, but there’s an elevator before it. Take this down to the 1st floor.
  3. After descending to the 1st floor, there’s a pedestrian crossing beyond a nearby escalator. Cross it.
  4. After crossing the pedestrian crossing, turn right. When you reach the bus rotary, follow the curve to the left.
  5. You’ll immediately reach the JR Shibuya Station building. Follow the curve to the right and proceed.
  6. After walking for a while, you’ll see the JR Shibuya Station “West Exit” on your left. Enter the building there.
  7. After entering through the West Exit, continue straight ahead and exit to the outside from the “East Exit” on the opposite side.
  8. After exiting from the East Exit, turn right, and the entrance to Shibuya Scramble Square will be directly in front of you.

The elevators for Shibuya Scramble Square are located to the left just before the entrance, and also at the back right once you enter the building.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Shibuya Station (Ginza Line)

From the Ginza Line, use the Scramble Square side ticket gate.

  1. Aim to ride in Car 1 of the Ginza Line in advance.
  2. When you arrive at Shibuya Station, exit from the “Scramble Square side ticket gate,” which is located beyond Car 1 of the Ginza Line platform.
  3. After exiting the gate, there’s an “automatic ticket vending machine” diagonally to your front left, and a passageway to its back right. Proceed through there.
  4. After walking for about 30 seconds, the entrance to “Shibuya Scramble Square” will be diagonally to your front right.

The Ginza Line platform has ticket gates on both sides, so be careful not to exit from the wrong gate.


How to Get to Shibuya Scramble Square from Ginza Line via Elevator

The Ginza Line platform is on the 3rd floor above ground, and you can get to the 3rd-floor entrance of Shibuya Scramble Square without changing levels.

Therefore, “you can get from the Ginza Line to Shibuya Scramble Square without using an elevator.”

Shibuya Scramble Square is very close and easy to find from both the JR lines and each subway line, with entrances located right outside the ticket gates.
