Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho is Just Before Miyashita Park

If you head towards Miyashita Park from Shibuya Station, you’ll find Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho just before it. However, it’s on a back street, one street off the main road, so even though it’s very close to Shibuya Station, you might not know it’s there unless you’re looking for it. Let’s take a look at how to get there from each train line.


How to Get to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho from Shibuya Station ① JR Lines

First, here’s how to get there from JR lines. It’s about a 2 to 3-minute walk from the “Hachiko Exit.”

  1. After exiting the Hachiko Exit gate of JR Shibuya Station, turn left and go out through the “Hachiko Exit.”
  2. The Scramble Crossing will be to your front right. Cross the rightmost crosswalk of the intersection.
  3. After crossing the crosswalk, immediately turn right and pass under the elevated tracks.
  4. Once you’ve passed under the elevated tracks, there’s a street immediately to your left. Turn into that street, and you’re at Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho. You’ll see Miyashita Park further down that street.

How to Get to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho from Shibuya Station ② Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line

The Hanzomon Line and Den-en-toshi Line operate directly through Shibuya, so you’ll arrive on the same platform. Since you’re coming from underground, it might be a bit confusing, but aim for “Exit A6.” It takes about 4 to 5 minutes to walk to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho from the Hanzomon Line/Den-en-toshi Line.

  1. First, exit from the “Hachiko Gate.”
  2. After exiting the gate, there’s a staircase with a large yellow sign that says “Exit A6” diagonally to your front right. Take that upwards.
  3. After climbing the stairs, turn right, and you’ll immediately see another staircase (Exit A6b) on your right. Take that to ground level. You’ll emerge in front of the Starbucks at Hachiko Plaza.
  4. Once on ground level, cross the Scramble Crossing in front of you towards the Tianjin sweet chestnut shop.
    • This is the direction under the elevated tracks, to the left of Hachiko.
  5. After crossing the crosswalk, proceed straight and pass under the elevated tracks.
  6. Once you’ve passed under the elevated tracks, there’s a street immediately to your left. Turn into that street, and you’re at Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.
    • From the Den-en-toshi Line & Hanzomon Line, the first key point is to exit the Hachiko Gate and aim for Exit A6. Make sure to confirm your direction as you go.

How to Get to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho from Shibuya Station ③ Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line

Shibuya Station for the Toyoko Line and Fukutoshin Line is underground. From the Toyoko Line, first head towards the Den-en-toshi Line platform, then aim for Exit A6. It takes about 5 to 6 minutes to walk to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.

  1. From the platform, find the sign that says “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line” and follow the directions to take the escalator up.
    • Other lines like JR and Ginza Line are also in the same direction.
  2. After getting off the escalator, follow the signs for “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line.”
  3. Walk for about 1 minute, and you’ll find an escalator marked “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line.” Take that upwards to reach the Den-en-toshi Line platform.
  4. Continue straight along the platform, and you’ll find an escalator with signs for JR lines, Ginza Line, and Hachiko Exit. Take that escalator upwards.
  5. After getting off the escalator, the “Hachiko Gate” will be diagonally behind you to the right. Exit from there.
  6. After exiting the gate, there’s a staircase with a large yellow sign that says “Exit A6” diagonally to your front right. Take that upwards.
  7. After climbing the stairs, turn right, and you’ll immediately see another staircase (Exit A6b) on your right. Take that to ground level. You’ll emerge in front of the Starbucks at Hachiko Plaza.
  8. Once on ground level, cross the Scramble Crossing in front of you towards the Tianjin sweet chestnut shop.
    • This is the direction under the elevated tracks, to the left of Hachiko.
  9. After crossing the crosswalk, proceed straight and pass under the elevated tracks.
  10. Once you’ve passed under the elevated tracks, there’s a street immediately to your left. Turn into that street, and you’re at Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.
    • From the Toyoko Line, the key point is to first move to the Den-en-toshi Line platform. Then, exit the Hachiko Gate and aim for Exit A6.

How to Get to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho from Shibuya Station ④ Inokashira Line

From Inokashira Line Shibuya Station, it’s easy to get to Nonbei Yokocho by going via the Scramble Crossing. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from the Inokashira Line to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.

  1. Exit from the “Central Gate” of the Inokashira Line.
  2. Immediately after exiting, there’s an escalator diagonally to your front left. Take that downwards.
  3. After getting off the escalator, you’re on the ground level. Turn left.
  4. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the Scramble Crossing in front of you. Cross the rightmost crosswalk.
  5. After crossing the crosswalk, immediately turn right and pass under the elevated tracks.
  6. Once you’ve passed under the elevated tracks, there’s a street immediately to your left. Turn into that street, and you’re at Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.
    • From the Inokashira Line, it’s easy as long as you don’t get the wrong place to descend to ground level. First, aim for the Scramble Crossing.

How to Get to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho from Shibuya Station ⑤ Ginza Line

From the Ginza Line, use the Scramble Square-bound Gate. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to walk from the Ginza Line to Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.

  1. The first crucial step is to exit from the “Scramble Square-bound Gate.” Double-check, as there’s also a gate in the opposite direction.
  2. After exiting the gate, there are ticket machines to your left, but take the passage immediately to their right.
  3. Immediately turn left and proceed straight along the path.
  4. After walking for about 30 seconds, you’ll see an escalator. Take that downwards.
  5. After getting off the escalator, you’re still on the 2nd floor. It might be momentarily confusing, but there’s another escalator immediately to your right going down. Take that further down.
  6. Once you get off the escalator, you’re on the ground level. Immediately turn right.
  7. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the “Miyamasu-zaka-shita Crossing” in front of you. Cross the crosswalk towards the Bic Camera building.
  8. After crossing the crosswalk, immediately turn left.
  9. The elevated tracks will be in front of you, but there’s a street to your right just before them. That’s Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho.
    • For the Ginza Line, make sure you don’t take the wrong exit.

Torifuku: The Only Yakitori Restaurant in Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho with a Tabelog Rating Over 3.5!

Shibuya Nonbei Yokocho has nearly 40 shops, and among them, there’s only one with a Tabelog rating of 3.5 or higher. That’s the yakitori restaurant, Torifuku. This restaurant has been in Nonbei Yokocho since 1950! It’s a famous spot. Since it’s popular, it’s generally better to make a reservation. On weekend evenings, they sometimes operate in two time slots, and the first slot starting at 4 PM might be less crowded. Their operating hours are from 11 AM to 9 PM.
