How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Shibuya Station! Which Exit to Use? (Including Train & Subway Access & Closest Gates)

Shibuya Center Gai is the street located by crossing the Hachiko Scramble Crossing towards the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building, then proceeding to the left of that TSUTAYA. It was officially renamed Basketball Street, but that name hasn’t really caught on. So, this time, Shibutama will show you how to get to Shibuya Center Gai from Shibuya Station, including which exit to use! We’ll cover directions from each Shibuya Station line: JR, Hanzomon Line, Den-en-toshi Line, Toyoko Line, Fukutoshin Line, Inokashira Line, Ginza Line, and also from the Hachiko statue.

Shibuya Center Gai is Right Near the Scramble Crossing! From Underground, Head for Exit A6

Shibuya Center Gai is the street that connects directly to the Hachiko Scramble Crossing. So, aiming for Hachiko or the Scramble Crossing is your best bet. The street to the left of the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building, which faces the Scramble Crossing, is Shibuya Center Gai. If you’re coming from underground, aim for “Exit A6,” which leads out directly beneath the TSUTAYA building. From the ground level, you can see it clearly, but it might be tricky if you’re coming from underground and don’t know the exit. If you get lost, just aim for Hachiko.


How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Hachiko

First, here are the directions from Hachiko Plaza.

  1. Cross the Hachiko Scramble Crossing towards the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building.
  2. Proceed down the street to the left of the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building, and that’s Shibuya Center Gai. From Hachiko Plaza, you’ll arrive just by crossing the Scramble Crossing.

How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from JR Shibuya Station

Here’s how to get there from JR Shibuya Station (Yamanote Line, Saikyo Line, Shonan-Shinjuku Line, etc.).

  1. From the JR Line, first aim for the “Hachiko Gate.” (It’s on a lower floor from each platform.)
  2. After exiting the Hachiko Gate, turn left and go out through the “Hachiko Exit.”
  3. That’s Hachiko Plaza. Cross the Hachiko Scramble Crossing towards the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building.
  4. Proceed down the street to the left of the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building, and that’s Shibuya Center Gai. There are two Hachiko Gates, but no matter which one you use, just go straight outside.

How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Hanzomon Line / Den-en-toshi Line at Shibuya Station

For the Hanzomon Line and Den-en-toshi Line, which arrive underground at Shibuya Station, aim for “Exit A6.” There are three parts to Exit A6 (A6a, A6b, A6c), but Exit A6a or A6b are closer to Center Gai.

  1. First, exit from the “Hachiko Gate.” (There are two Hachiko Gates; aim to exit from the one towards the Inokashira Line.)
  2. After exiting the gate, there’s a staircase diagonally to your front right with a yellow sign indicating “Exit A6.” Take that staircase up.
  3. After ascending the stairs, turn right, and you’ll find more staircases to your left, center, and right. The left staircase is Exit A6a, and the center staircase is Exit A6b. If you exit from Exit A6b, you’ll come out directly below the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building.
  4. The street to the left of that Starbucks/TSUTAYA building is “Shibuya Center Gai.” From the Den-en-toshi Line & Hanzomon Line, the key point is to exit from the Hachiko Gate towards the Inokashira Line. If you accidentally come out from the opposite gate, you can go around to the other side from the right.

How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Toyoko Line / Fukutoshin Line at Shibuya Station

Shibuya Station for the Toyoko Line and Fukutoshin Line is underground. First, head towards the Den-en-toshi Line platform, then aim for Exit A6.

  1. From the platform, go up one floor using the stairs or escalator.
  2. Once on the upper floor, follow the signs for “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line.”
  3. Walk for about 1 minute, and you’ll find an escalator marked “DT Den-en-toshi Line H Hanzomon Line.” Take that downwards to reach the Den-en-toshi Line platform.
  4. Continue straight along the platform, and you’ll find an escalator with signs for JR lines, Ginza Line, and Hachiko Exit. Take that escalator upwards.
  5. After getting off the escalator, you’ll be on the ticket gate level. There’s a “Hachiko Gate” there. Exit from it. (There are two Hachiko Gates; exit from the one towards the Inokashira Line. If you see signs for the Ginza Line, you’re going the wrong way, so turn around.)
  6. After exiting the gate, there’s a staircase diagonally to your front right with a yellow sign indicating “Exit A6.” Take that staircase up.
  7. After ascending the stairs, turn right, and you’ll find more staircases to your left, center, and right. The left staircase is Exit A6a, the center staircase is Exit A6b, and the right staircase is Exit A6c.
  8. Take the center staircase up, and if you exit from Exit A6b, you’ll come out directly below the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building.
  9. The street to the left of that Starbucks/TSUTAYA building is “Shibuya Center Gai.” From the Toyoko Line, the key point is to first move to the Den-en-toshi Line platform. Then, exit the Hachiko Gate, but be careful as there are two. Exit from the Hachiko Gate towards the Inokashira Line. If you accidentally come out from the opposite gate, go around to the other side from the right.

How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Inokashira Line at Shibuya Station

From Shibuya Station on the Inokashira Line, aim for the Scramble Crossing.

  1. Exit from the “Chuo-guchi (Central Exit) gate” of the Inokashira Line.
  2. Immediately after exiting, there’s an escalator diagonally to your front left. Take it down.
  3. After getting off the escalator, you’ll be on the ground level. Turn left.
  4. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the Scramble Crossing in front of you. Cross the intersection towards the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building.
  5. The street to the left of that Starbucks/TSUTAYA building is “Shibuya Center Gai.” From the Inokashira Line, it’s simple as long as you don’t get the ground-level exit wrong. First, aim for the Scramble Crossing.

How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Ginza Line at Shibuya Station

The Ginza Line is located on the opposite side, making it a bit further. It’s about a 6 to 7-minute walk.

  1. First, from the platform, exit from the “Scramble Square-bound Gate.” Be careful, as there’s also a gate in the opposite direction.
  2. After exiting the gate, there are ticket machines to your front left, but take the passage immediately to their right.
  3. Immediately turn left and proceed straight along the path.
  4. After walking for about 30 seconds, you’ll see an escalator. Take it down.
  5. After getting off the escalator, you’re still on the 2nd floor. It might be momentarily confusing, but there’s another escalator immediately to your right going down. Take that further down.
  6. Once you get off the escalator, you’re on the ground level. Immediately turn right.
  7. Walk a short distance, and you’ll see the “Miyamasu-zaka-shita Crossing” diagonally to your front right. When you reach the main road in front, turn left.
  8. Pass under the elevated railway tracks, and you’ll immediately reach the Scramble Crossing. Cross the intersection towards the Starbucks/TSUTAYA building.
  9. The street to the left of that Starbucks/TSUTAYA building is “Shibuya Center Gai.” For the Ginza Line, make sure you don’t take the wrong exit.

Summary: How to Get to Shibuya Center Gai from Shibuya Station

Shibuya Center Gai is directly connected to the Hachiko Scramble Crossing. So, aiming for Hachiko or the Scramble Crossing should make it easy to find.
